VTB employees switch to Basis Workplace

The Basis company, a leading developer of tools for organizing dynamic infrastructure, virtual workplaces, and providing cloud services, has become a supplier of infrastructure software for VTB. The domestic workplace virtualization platform Basis Workplace will replace a foreign solution in the organization’s infrastructure.

As part of the concluded contract, the majority of bank employees will be provided with virtual workplaces until the end of 2024; the first employees have already begun to use the solution. Migration of personnel to Basis Workplace, as well as continuous support and fault tolerance of the infrastructure, is carried out by T1 Integration.

The Basis Workplace platform is one of the flagship products of the Basis ecosystem, designed for creating and managing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI). Using the platform’s own agent, you can create and configure a virtual desktop and terminal server on Windows and Linux, and Basis Workplace also allows you to automate the life cycle of virtual environments. The platform is horizontally scalable and resistant to high loads; it is possible to implement a geo-distributed installation to simplify the construction of disaster-proof solutions. Basis Workplace replaces foreign VDI solutions such as Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, VMware Horizon, Citrix Workspace, and Windows Virtual Desktop.

“Huge infrastructure, increased requirements for its availability and scaling, a professional team with which you need to be on par – all this became a challenge for us as a supplier of system software in the VTB project. We met this challenge and successfully helped to replace the import of the Citrix solution in the infrastructure bank, but not only that – we also gained new relevant experience and at the same time made our product better. Those wishes for Basis Workplace, which the VTB team formed for us based on the results of tests, led to the release of a new version of the product that meets the most stringent customer requirements. This project’s experience will allow us to offer higher quality solutions and services to the entire Russian market,” commented David Martirosov, General Director of Basis.

“A virtualization system is a necessary element for organizing the work of employees in corporations with an extensive IT infrastructure and an extensive retail network. One of such corporations, without a doubt, is VTB. Such systems make it possible to establish access to server capacities for a large number of employees – including technical those who work remotely or use portable devices to work with clients. For example, employees in bank branches who serve clients using a work laptop. Without a virtualization solution installed on it, this laptop will not be able to connect to the bank’s internal services,” noted the Deputy President. – Chairman of the Board of VTB Bank Vadim Kulik.

“The project to import substitution of the virtual desktop system is a logical continuation of the project to combine several virtual desktop systems (VWP), which VTB Bank inherited after the first mergers with other banks. After successfully transferring all users to a single VWP system, the VTB team gained vast experience, which greatly helped in the current project. One of the important features of this project was that we were able to launch the Basis Workplace solution on the VTB cloud platform. We have developed a special software and hardware configuration for the VTB. Cloud platform is easily scalable and has all the advantages of a cloud solution. This allowed the Basis solution to fit seamlessly into the existing infrastructure and processes of VTB Bank,” said Nikolai Shutkin, Deputy Head of the Infrastructure Development Department – VTB Vice President.
